The world's longest national highway

The world's longest national highway is the Trans-Canada Highway that run across Canada from Victoria, British Columbia to and St. John's, Newfoundland covering 7,821 kilometers or 4,860 miles.

The highway took over 20 years to complete at a cost of almost $1,000,000,000.00 CAD.
The Trans-Canada Highway was officially opened in 1962 but was not completed until 1971.
The official midpoint of the highway is at Batchwana Bay, Ontario.

The highest point on the highway is Kicking Horse Pass, on the Alberta - BC border, at an elevation of 1643 meters.

National Highway One which basically circumnavigates Australia covers an outbackish 24,000 kilometers or just over 14,900 miles.
The highway accomodates over 1 million people per day and costs over $1 billion to maintain.
