Novel Terpanjang

The advent of very inexpensive self publishing has allowed authors to easily and inexpensively create a literary work that meets all of the conventional criteria that a text must meet to be called a novel. Some very long examples have generated considerable attention from the mass media, such as the 17-million-word Marienbad My Love by Mark Leach and the 13-million-word The Blah Story by Nigel Tomm. The Story of the Vivian Girls, a nine-million-word novel by outsider artist Henry Darger has never been published but continues to generate considerable attention from art critics and the media.

Novel cycles are essentially multivolume of books that share a fictional universe yet could be read independently. In some cases, authors and publishers might disagree on how to publish literary works and break up a novel into a series and vice versa. Word counts can easily climb into the millions. Noteworthy examples include the Wheel of Time fantasy series with more than 4 million words written by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson (This is a single narrative, but unfinished yet.); A Dance to the Music of Time by Anthony Powell, a series of 12 novels published from 1951 to 1975 and topping out at over 1 million words; and Perry Rhodan, a German series of novels claiming over 150 million words in more than 2,300 parts.

 High word counts can be found in many works of fan fiction, including Cevn McGuire’s Trial by Tenderness at about two million words.

Tajuk buku menjelo panjang

Membaca buku memang menjadi hobi kepada sesetengah orang. Semasa belajar dulu, perpustakaan memang menjadi tumpuan. Menggunakan catalog dan slide mencari judul buku sesuatu yang menakjubkan. Dulu masa tahun 80'an, jarang jumpa perpustakaan menggunakan kaedah online. Tapi buku yang satu ini memang saya berhajat nak carik sobab tajuknya yang bukan main panjang.


The Guinness Book of World Records mempunyai catatan tajuk buku yang paling panjang. Mengandungi 1,433 huruf, buku tulisan Davide Ciliberti pada julai 2007 menjadinya buku yang paling panjang tajuk.

Umangai… ontah apo sebona yang ditulis, kurang pasti. Membaca tajuk buku ini sahaja boleh membuatkan mata mengantuk. Kalau budak tadika diminta menghafal, mungkin ambik masa jugak ni. Kalau orang dewaso.. ontahlah.

Buku Paling Tebal

Ingatkan buku Buku Encyclopedia Britannica paling tebal … tapi si mamat Rob Matthews adalah orang yang membuat versi cetak (print) dari Wikipedia dalam bentuk hardcopy Buku itu tebalnya 5000 halaman, isinya adalah kompilasi dari 400 artikel lebih. Umangai….Buku ini tingginya 1 kaki 7 inci, atau sekitar 47.5 cm!  Namun mamat ni cuma mencetak 0.01% dari seluruh isi Wikipedia !!! Tujuannya agar orang yang ingin membaca Wikipedia secara offline dapat membeli buku ini. Jadi silalah anda hitung sendiri berapa halaman yang diperlukan untuk membukukan seluruh artikel di Wikipedia !!

caro mengiro lebih kurang macam ni,
1 buku 5000 halaman setinggi 47.5 cm berisi 0.01%, jadi kalau seluruh Wikipedia dicetak maka :
100% / 0.01% = 10.000 buah buku yang seperti itu ! 

Kalau sebuah lebih kurang 1 kaki setengah, kalau 10,000 buah…. Umangai 15 ribu kaki. Mau mati kok di hompap kek buku ni. Kalau rakyat Malaysia cuma baco 3 muka surat setahun, kalau 5000 halaman (tu baru sebuah buku) bayangkan maso yang terpakso diambil. Satu buku ambik maso 1,666 tahun, sey ulang satu ribu onam ratus onam puluh onam tahun. Itu baru 0.01% . Kalau 100% di cetak! Umangai … maleh sey nak mengiro. Kang orang kato gilo pulak.

 

Perkataan Paling Panjang

Umangai...payah pulak nak menyebut bondo ni. Tergeliat lidah. Tapi ini adalah perkataan paling panjang dalam kamus melayu ialah MENYETIDAKNYAHCASDIVERSIFIKASIELEKTROSTATIKKAN (to undiversify uncharged electrostatic electricity)  . 46 huruf menjadikan perkataan ini  paling panjang. Dan perkataan penyetidaknyahcasdiversifikasielektrostatikkan (the process of undiversifiying uncharged electrostatic electricity) juga mengandungi 46 huruf.

Semntara perkataan inggeri yang terpanjang terdapat dalam kamus ialah
PNEUMONO­ULTRA­MICRO­SCOPIC­SILICO­VOLCANO­CONIOSIS (a lung disease caused by breathing in particles of siliceous volcanic dust). Perkataan ini mengandungi 45 huruf.

Perkataan kedua ialah HEPATICO­CHOLANGIO­CHOLECYST­ENTERO­STOMIES = a surgical creation of a connection between the gall bladder and a hepatic duct and between the intestine and the gall bladder.
